How to say Psalms
The most powerful way to say Psalms is out loud, or by at least moving your lips. If you read them silently they remain in the realm of thought. We want them to affect the world of action which is the world we live in. Before reciting them, ask G-d in your own words to have mercy on the people of Israel and Jews around the world. You do not have to be Jewish to pray on behalf of the Jewish people. The righteous of all nations are part of our redemption.
Psalm 20
To the chief Musician, a Psalm of David:
May G-d answer you on the day of distress;
May the name of Jacob's G-d fortify you.
May He send your help from the Sanctuary, and support you from Zion. May He remember all your meal offerings and accept your burnt sacrifices, Selah. May He grant you what your heart desires and fulfill all your plans. We will sing at Your deliverance, and in the Name of our G-d, raise our banners. May G-d fulfill all your wishes. Now I know that G-d has delivered His annointed one. He will answer him from His holy heavens with the mighty deliverance of His right hand. Some rely upon chariots and some upon horses, but as for us, upon the Name of Hashem, our G-d we call. They have bowed down and fallen, but we have risen and stand firm. G-d, deliver us. the King will answer us on the day we call.
Psalm 83
A song, a Psalm of Asaph
G-d, do not hold Your silence; be not silent and be not still Almighty. For behold, Your enemies are in an uproar and those who hate You have lifted up their head. Against Your people they plot deceitfully, and they conspire against those sheltered by You. They say, "Come, let us cut them off from nationhood, let Israel's name be remembered no more." For they conspire together with a unanimous heart, against You they make a covenant. The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagrites. Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre. Even Assyria is joined with them, they become a supporting arm to the children of Lot, Selah. Do unto them as with Midian; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at theriver bed of Kishon. They were destroyed at Ein Dor; they became dung for the soil. Make their nobles, like Oreb and Zeeb, and like Zebach and Zalmuna, all their princes. Who said, "Let us inherit for ourselves the pleasant habitations of G-d." My G-d, make them like whirling chaff, like straw before the wind. Like fire that burns the forest, and like a flame that ignites the mountains., So pursue them with Your tempest, and terrify them with Your tempest, and terrify them with Your storm. Fill their faces with shame, then they will seek Your Name, G-d. Let them be ashamed and terrified, forever; and let them be humiliated and perish. Then they will know that You, Whose Name is G-d, are alone, the Most High over all the earth.
Psalm 121
A Song of Ascents.
I will lift my eyes to the mountains: from where will my help come?
My help comes from G-d, Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip, He will not slumber - your Guardian. Behold, He dows not slumber nor does He sleep - the Guardian of Israel! G-d is your Guardian, G-d is your shelter at your right hand. By day the sun will not smite you, nor the moon at night. G-d will guard you from all evil; He wil preserve your soul. G-d will guard your going and coming, from now and forever.
Psalm 130
A Song of Ascents
Out of the depths I have called to You, G-d. My Master, hear my voice; let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. If You, G-d, should take account of iniquities, my Master, who could survive? For with You is forgiveness, in order that You be feared. I hope for G-d, my soul hopes; and for His word, I wait. My soul waits for my Master more than the watchman waits for the morning, more than the watchman waits for the morning. Wait, Israel, upon G-d, for with G-d there is loving-kindness and with Him there is much redemption. And He will redeem Israel from all its iniquities.
Psalm 142
An instruction of David, when he was in the cave, a Prayer. With my voice I cry out to Adonoy; with my voice I cry out to G-d; with my voice I supplicate to G-d. I pour out before Him my prayerful medtation, my distress, before Him, I declare. When around me, enwraps itself my spirit and You know my path; in the path in which I walk they have hidden a trap for me. Look to the right and see, that no one recognizes me; refuge is lost for me, no one cares for my soul. I have cried out to You, G-d; I have said, "You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living." Listen to my cry for I have been brought very low, rescue me from my pursuers for they are mightier than me. Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks to Your Name; because of me the righteous will crown You, when You will have dealt kindly with me.
