The Readathon begins at ___________________________________ .
Date & Time
Every minute you read is a mitzvah! This year we will be raising money with our reading for Kids4Kids, an organization that helps children in Israel who have been affected by terrorism. You may use the pledge form on your reading record or on the back of this paper to keep track of your sponsors and how much they will donate.
1. Reading before and after school and during recess counts.
2. Reading from before the official beginning of the Readathon does not count.
3. Assigned reading during class time does not count, but free time reading
does count.
4. You can only read a book once for the contest.
5. Other people reading aloud to you counts.
6. Reading aloud to other people counts. If you read to your friend or your
brother or sister, it counts for both of you!
7. Reading aloud to the dog, the cat and the goldfish counts.
8. Reading in a tree, on the bus, in the car, on an airplane, in a hotel and under
the bed covers with a flashlight counts.
9. Reading in the dark, under water, upside down or with your eyes shut does
not count.
10. Getting up early in the morning or staying up later at night to read counts,
IF you have your parent's permission.
11. Reading instead of doing your homework does not count.
12. Reading instead of watching TV does count.
13. Reading on Shabbos and Yom Tov counts but you'll have to remember
how many minutes you've read and write them down after Havdalah.
14. Reading over vacation counts.
15. Assigned reading for homework and book report reading counts.
16. Reading anything in any language counts - even cereal boxes!
17. NO guessing or rounding off minutes. Please look at the clock or use
a timer or stopwatch to clock your 20 minutes. If you read less than
20 minutes, write down how many minutes you read next to the shape,
and add it to the next time you read. Please be honest so that it will be fair
and fun for everyone! Your parents or teacher need to initial each shape.
18. Each Friday, bring in your reading chart and record the total number of
minutes you have read for that week on the chart in your classroom.
19. The last day to read for the school contest is _____________________.
Make sure you bring your reading chart to school by __________________.
No minutes will be counted after _________________! The class that reads the most minutes will win an ice cream party. The class that raises the most money for Kids4Kids will also win an ice cream party. If the same class reads the most and raises the most money for Kids4Kids, that class will win two ice cream parties!
